"My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:29-30, ESV)
Do you have a secure home? When I was a kid, there was one afternoon when my family arrived home to discover crowbar divots around the exterior frame of our entrance door. It was alarming and unsettling. Someone attempted to enter our home without our consent, without our approval, without our knowledge. I can almost still hear the words from dad, “If it hadn’t been for a sturdy dead-bolt lock they would have broken in and stolen from us.” Thank goodness for security.
Today, homeowners and business owners spend quite a lot to secure their property. Whether they install strong locks, video cameras, alarm systems, or even use guard dogs people love the extra peace of mind that accompanies security safeguards. When it comes to our eternal security - our right standing with God the Father - we need not worry.
Christ promises in John 10:28 that His sheep will receive eternal life and this life is 100% secured because “no one will snatch them out of My hand.” Then Christ takes this promise a step further (while simultaneously announcing His unity with God the Father) in John 10:29 when He states, “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
Consider Matthew Henry’s powerful words regarding this deep spiritual truth:
“Christ had Himself experienced the power of His Father upholding and strengthening Him, and therefore puts His followers into His hand too. He that secured the glory of the Redeemer will secure the glory of the redeemed.”
Do you see this in your own life? Do you grasp that the very same God that sent Christ and raised Christ is the same God who secures your salvation. God is all powerful. There is no force stronger than God. And God is the One safeguarding His people. Rest and rejoice in God’s infinite power and abundant grace - He is the One holding you!
To repeat and reinforce a point that was made in last week’s devotion, Jesus provides, Jesus protects, and Jesus promises eternal life to His sheep! There is no enemy with the power to thwart God’s marvelous plan to rescue and redeem His people! What a comforting thought to know that no one, no thing, can snatch the sheep from their Shepherd’s hand! Praise be to God.
